Brightness and heat dissipation of LED car headlights
We’ve talked about the lamp bead before, including the COB bead that has only 60-day lifetime. Today, I will tell you about another core technology of LED, “heat dissipation”. With good lamp beads but bad heat dissipation, LED will be also destined to burn because of continuous temperature rise. At this time, the stability and brightness of the LED product will be determined by the excellent technology of heat dissipation. And I believe everyone wants a very bright LED lamp, so the factors affecting brightness in addition to the lamp beads also include the heat-dissipating method, because only good heat dissipation can make your LED brighter!
Something about heat dissipation in addition to the lamp beads
In the LED light industry, there are usually two types of heat dissipation: passive cooling and active cooling. Passive cooling mainly refers to the cooling of the structural materials, that is, to achieve heat dissipation through connecting metal materials to the heating part of the lamp. There are mainly three types from history: the first generation is the cooling of aluminum body with its disadvantage of small heat dissipation area and not enough power, resulting in the low brightness of this kind of product.
The first generation is the cooling of aluminum body
The second generation is the cooling of copper belt. The copper belt cooling is initiated by PAVEDGE in 2014 within the world, that is to say, all the copper belt cooling in the world today is derived from from PAVEDGE. We are the ancestor of copper belt cooling. Since then, LED light has been popularized. An increase of heat dissipation area leads to the improvement of the power and thus its brightness is accepted by the majority of users. However, the installation needs to spread apart the copper belts as far as possible to prevent them intertwined, otherwise, it will result in excess temperature and lead to lights burning.

The reason for effective heat dissipation of metal woven belts is that strips of individual metal fiber have larger heat dissipation area. But it will turn into a piece of metal lump if these fiber strips are twisted together. Therefore, the process requires qualified metal belt cooling in which its metal belts must be torn apart and scattered. Let’s talk about active cooling
In addition to passive cooling, there is active cooling. Graphic Processing Unit and CUP that we use the most in daily life are the items of active cooling.
You see, the aluminum cooling slot around the edge is for passive cooling, and the fan in the middle is for active cooling. The same goes for LED lights, and it is common to use the fan for active cooling. Active cooling has the advantage of higher heat dissipation efficiency, so the LED lights of fan type will be brighter compared to the same upper structure of the same lamp bead. But just as everything has two sides, the LED lamp of fan type also has a fatal drawback, that is, the fan will break down! And the tough environment outside the car brings about much higher requirements for the fan.
Therefore, the key point is to choose what kind of fan that can be used with better efficiency for longer and meanwhile bring out higher LED brightness. Fan has also various grades and ranks, and what is a good fan? Here are a few more specialized nouns: oil pressure fan, single ball bearing fan and double ball bearing fan.
Oil pressure fan is the pure oil fan of the worst quality. The single ball-bearing fan uses a ball bearing with an oil bearing to reduce the cost of the double ball bearing. Its rotor and stator are lubricated with ball bearing and lubricating oil. This fan has low noise, but is easy to leak oil. The service life of oil bearing fan will be greatly reduced in high temperature and dust environment, so it is extremely unsuitable for use in LED lights.
Single ball bearing fan
The double ball bearing fan adopts two ball bearings, in which several tiny steel balls revolve around the axis. Steel balls rotate as the fan blade or axis rotates. Because of all in sphere shape, they have less force of friction, and there is no oil leak.
Structure of double ball bearing fan
By comparison, the life of oil-bearing fan is generally less than one year, and that of single ball bearing fan is about 2 years, and that of double ball bearing fan can be above 3 years (according to use density). Most domestic manufacturers do not use the double ball bearing fan because of its high cost. But it is mostly adopted in PAVEDGE’s active cooling products and enables the fan to be more durable, not easy to burn out, have a longer life and higher brightness!
