Brightness: only request for LED car lamp? Poor focus also brings darkness!
While driving cars every day under inadequate lighting, we need car lamps to guarantee driving security. With continuous invention and perfection of car-mounted lighting technology, LED car lamps become popular among public people thanks to green and environment-friendly advantages, sufficient comfort and high reliability.
LED car lamps will inevitably be the general trend of automotive lighting lamps in the future, but do we really have enough acquaintance of them? Most car owners lack knowledge in this field, so we’ve invited Su Rui, the general manager of Shenzhen YISHIDA, the giant in domestic LED car lamp industry. He will talk about LED car lamps for us. As a professional in the car lamp field, I was very often consulted by car fans about car lamps. On one side, I’m happy to see that people are quite interested in LED car lamps. On the other side, obviously such information is not generalized to the public enough. Hence, in the program “Su Rui Talks about Lamps”, no advertisement will be added. I only want to build it into the China’s Top 1 platform for popularization of LED car lamps. I will answer your questions as a professional. You can find faults and point out my defects. I will also learn from you modestly.
Lesson 1: Light focus, the soul of LED car lamp!
Why is light focus of LED lamps so difficult?
What is a good LED car lamp? This is a very broad question. A good LED car lamp must have high brightness, a good lighting pattern, quick heat dissipation, a stable design structure, etc. Besides these theoretical requirements, let’s talk about requirements in actual application scenes. A good LED car lamp shall satisfy the car owner’s actual demands for high and far lighting. Only in this way, we can see things clearly and drive more safely.
This is what we will talk about today. “Good lighting pattern” of an LED car lamp is the “focus light”. Why do different LED car lamps have different irradiation effects even if they use the same lamp bead? The effect depends on the professional terminology of “light distribution”.
Traditional halogen lamps have very good light focus effects as lighting of halogen bulbs depends on lighting and shining of tungsten filaments. Light sources come from the same center, which is called as “spot lighting”. Spot light sources get reflected by the lamp bowl and then gather to irradiate forwards and spread uniformly on the ground. In this way, enough visual brightness in the front can be ensured.
LED bead is different from halogen bulb as it is only a stereoscopic face and sends out light to only one single face with a scope of about 140°, which is called as “face lighting”.
Outdated bulbs have a lot of weaknesses in comparison with LED lamps, but they have a good lighting pattern.
Traditional LED lamps can only cover a lighting face of 140°.
The “spot lighting” and “face lighting” depend on different lighting theories. Hence, the refraction degree cannot be that concentrated like that of spot light sources. In case of improper treatment, the refracted light rays will be loose and intervene with each other. You can check it by yourself and will finally find most LED lamps in the market cannot focus light before June 2017, and there is no LED lamp product with light focus in the market. What will happen if a lamp cannot focus light? For example, outside the car you will find the car lamp too bright to be stared at. But while sitting in the car, you will find the front road totally dark or dark in some parts. This phenomenon is called by an industrial term: quite poor “road paving effect”. Of course, these products cannot guarantee safe driving of drivers.
Road paving effects of LED lamps are unsatisfactory before the emergence of new technologies.
Wise man’s stupid method: make a face into spots.
Some car fans will say: “How stupid you are! It’s quite easy to solve this problem. You can make the lamp bead round, right?”
No! It’s not enough to make a round shape. This is also the misunderstanding of some manufacturers in China. In fact, it is necessary to realize “spot lighting” just like the halogen lamp rather than piece several lamp beads together for 360° lighting. If you can realize 360° lighting of lamp beads without influencing any parameter, we will hire you and give you a car and a house for free.
In fact, no technology in the world can realize “spot lighting” of LED lamp beads. Despite of the diversified sizes and shapes, all the LED lamp beads are shaped like flat squares. Then, some wise people think: “Although lamp beads make face lighting, can we approach lamp beads on the left and right faces as much as possible to form a similar spot of 360° lighting?”
This idea was implemented in YISHIDA. Our engineers made brand-new design based on this idea. YISHIDA made aluminum substrates for LED lamp bead welding and middle heat dissipation parts as thin as possible. Without influencing heat dissipation, we reduced the distance between lamp beads from the former 3-4 mm to the current 0.6-0.8 mm.
The farther the distance between two lamp beads is, the poorer the refraction effect will be.
When the distance between lamp beads is shortened to the hilt, the lighting pattern will infinitely approach that of spot lighting.
We can use a diagram to display their difference. In the left model, the distance between lamp beads is narrowed.
In the end, the lighting effect approaches that of a halogen lamp.
Some picky car fans will say “there is still distance between them!” Now we haven’t not yet integrated them together, but it is already the best effect based on current technologies (substrates of lamp beads cannot be omitted). Thinning of the center is based on the world’s unique light focus technology at present. It has greatly improved the light source refraction effect to approach or even compare favorably with lighting pattern effects of a halogen bulb.
Then, let’s see the difference while we sit in the car and look outwards. Let’s see the contrast effect diagrams:
This is the measured light focus effect of YISHIDA Eagle 1.0. We can find the lighting pattern is gathering, while the brightness is strong and uniform.
This is the light focus effect of LED lamp in the contrast group. We can find chaotic dark areas.
We can find the light focus effect of LED car lamps of YISHIDA Eagle 1.0 is much better than that of the contrast group, proving that the little improvement of design can bring so much better experience for our car owners! TIPS: Change or purchase lamps:
I made a brief introduction to some knowledge about light focus of LED lamps. Now I will tell you how to select an LED car lamp with good light focus.
- Do not test the lamp under good lighting conditions.
- Sit in the car and observe irradiation lightness and distance of the car lamp.
- Check whether its road paving effect is uniform.
- Check its lamp bead, actuation, heat dissipation, workmanship, etc. (to be discussed later)
- Check whether the seller has brand authorization.
Besides above conditions, please choose LED lamps of domestic famous brands, while the price shall not be too cheap!
